Well that was a total joy of a project.
It started out as a bit of a trial to see how I liked the pattern and if I liked the fit.
I got the yarn out of deep sash- It had been hibernating after being frogged from a prvious crochet top that I had made (years ago). The yarn is a lovely green called “Sorrento” by Sirdar – Amalfi. Its a DK weight cotton yarn with a strand of variagated colour running through it to give dome flecks along with the solid green. I loved this pattern- the instructions were lovely and clear- easy to follow. Its knit at quite a loose gauge so it works up pretty quickly. Once I had split for the sleeves, I was worried it was going to be a bit of a slog as cotton is not my favourite fibre to work with but it was pretty quick.
Along with the main pattern itself, Rebecca has put together a second PDF which outlines the multitude of modifications made by her testers including pictures and notations.
It’s such a blank canvas of a pattern that it lend itself perfectly to lots of mods and variations. I have in mind to make another in some royal blue Drops Muscat with some thick eyelet and stockinette stripes, and onother striped version using some pink and orange Sirdar stories yarn recently purchased from Wool Warehouse.
All in all, I cannot recommend this pattern highly enough- its an absolute gem of a wardrobe staple and you could make so many different garments and no one would know it’s all from the same pattern.
If you havent got it already, go, go and buy it, or at least look at the #tolstatee on instagram – your mind will instantly begin whurring with ideas!
